How Do I Know If Someone Posted A Bond?

To find out if someone has posted a bond and been released from jail, you can contact the jail, check online inmate records, or ask the court handling the case. In Kansas and most other states, bond information becomes public record once it’s processed, and it’s usually easy to confirm if a defendant has been released.

Check the Jail’s Inmate Roster

Most county jails maintain online inmate search tools or daily rosters. You can search by name to see if the person is still in custody. If the individual’s name no longer appears, or the record says “released on bond,” it usually means the bond has been posted and processed.

Call the Jail or Detention Center

If online records aren’t updated, you can call the jail’s booking or records department directly. Provide the person’s full name and date of birth. The staff can confirm,

  • If the person is still in custody
  • The bond amount and type (cash, surety, or property)
  • Whether the bond has been posted
  • The time and date of release, if applicable

Contact the Court Clerk’s Office

The clerk of the court that issued the bond can also verify whether it has been posted. Court records will show the bond payment, bondsman information, and any release orders. You can usually request this information by phone or in person, depending on the court’s privacy rules.

Ask the Bondsman (If One Was Used)

If you know which bail bonds company was involved, you can call them directly. They can confirm whether the bond has been paid, processed, and accepted by the court or jail. Bail bondsmen often know when a release is expected to happen since they handle the paperwork directly.

Wait for Processing

Even after a bond is paid, release can take several hours while the jail verifies paperwork and updates records. During this time, the person will still appear as “in custody” until officially processed out.

You can find out if someone posted bond by checking the jail roster, contacting the jail or court, or calling the bondsman. Once the bond is posted and processed, the individual’s release will be reflected in official records.
