Newton is the county seat of Harvey County, and the Harvey County Detention Center sits in the Law Enforcement Center at 120 E 7th St along with the Newton Police Department. We are a Wichita bail bond company and we travel up to Newton to write bonds in person. Call (316) 833-8506 any hour.
We make it easy for you. Let us handle the court and paperwork so you don’t have to.
Open 24/7. We’ll even come and pick you up in Newton if you need us to.
A bail bond is a service fee for putting up bail money to a court in order to allow you to get out of jail until your court date. The court will set a bail amount for you, if it is more than you can afford and you don’t want yourself or your loved one to remain in jail until that court date, then you need to talk to a bail bonds company who will put the money up on your behalf.
Co-signing for a bail bond means you are taking legal responsibility for the full amount of the bail bond. So if the court said the bail bond was $10,000, and the bail bondsman is asking you to pay $1,000 to them as their service fee, and the person skips out and runs from the appointed court date, the bondsman will come after you to get the money they put up to the court, which means you owe the full $10,000.
If they were arrested in Newton, they are in the Harvey County Detention Center at 120 E 7th St, Newton, KS 67114. The Harvey County Sheriff’s Office is (316) 284-6960. Felonies and county charges go to Harvey County District Court at 800 N Main St, (316) 284-6800. City tickets go to Newton Municipal Court at 201 E 6th St, 316-284-6050. Call us at (316) 833-8506 and we will come post the bond.
Newton is the county seat of Harvey County, and that makes it the centre of everything. The county jail, the county sheriff, the city police department and the district court are all here, most of them within a few blocks of each other. If someone you know was arrested anywhere in Harvey County, Newton is where they ended up.
We are a bail bond company based in Wichita at 700 N Market St, Ste 1, staffed 24 hours a day. We do not keep an office in Newton. We travel up to Harvey County and write the bond in person, the same way we do in Sedgwick County. Call (316) 833-8506 and a licensed bondsman answers, any hour.
The Harvey County Detention Center is run by the Harvey County Sheriff’s Office out of the Law Enforcement Center at 120 E 7th St, Newton, KS 67114. The Sheriff’s Office line is (316) 284-6960. The sheriff is Chad Gay.
This is the only jail in Harvey County. Whether the arrest happened in Newton, Hesston, Halstead, North Newton, Sedgwick or out on a county road, this is where the booking happens.
A few things the county says directly, which are worth knowing before you start calling:
The single most useful thing about the Newton setup: the Harvey County Sheriff’s Office, the Harvey County Detention Center and the Newton Police Department are all in the same Law Enforcement Center at 120 E 7th St. People assume a Newton city arrest and a county arrest mean two different buildings. They do not.
The Newton Police Department is in the Law Enforcement Center at 120 E 7th St, Newton, KS 67114. The main line is 316-284-6030, and non emergency dispatch is 316-283-4190. The chief is Ronald “Craig” Dunlavy, who has held the job since 2019.
Note the lobby hours: Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. If your person was arrested Friday evening, the front counter is not going to be open on Saturday. Dispatch is answered around the clock, but the office window is not, and that catches families out constantly. Our phone is answered at 2 a.m. on a Sunday.
Harvey County has two systems and they do not overlap.
Harvey County District Court handles felonies and county filed misdemeanors. It is on the second floor of the Harvey County Courthouse at 800 N Main St, Newton, KS 67114, and the number is (316) 284-6800. Harvey County is part of the Ninth Judicial District, which also covers McPherson County, so judges move between the two counties and the docket in Newton is not a five day a week operation in every division.
Newton Municipal Court handles city ordinance violations and city traffic charges written by Newton officers. It is at 201 E 6th St, Newton, KS 67114, phone 316-284-6050, open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
So a Newton arrest can mean the jail at 120 E 7th, the municipal court one block away at 201 E 6th, and the district court up at 800 N Main. Three addresses, three purposes. We will tell you which ones apply to your case on the first call.
Do not wait until you have all of it. Call and we will start working while you fill in the rest.
The judge sets the bond amount. We charge a percentage of that as our fee, and in most situations we can start with a down payment rather than the whole fee up front. The exact terms depend on the bond amount, the charge and the county, so we quote it on the call instead of publishing one number that may not fit your case.
The fee pays for the service of posting the bond. It is not a deposit and it does not come back when the case ends. That is true of every bail bond company in Kansas.
Co-signing means you are responsible for the full bond amount if your person misses court. Two honest questions first: will they show up, and can you stay in contact with them until the case is finished? In our experience the bonds that go bad almost never involve somebody running. They involve somebody losing track of a date. If you co-sign, put every court date in your phone.
We answer at (316) 833-8506 24 hours a day, and our Wichita office at 700 N Market St, Ste 1 is open and staffed around the clock, not forwarded to an answering service. If your person is in the Harvey County Detention Center right now, call and we will tell you exactly where things stand.
